Overview
Project Overview: Heat pipes are an integral part of modern engineering due to its function as a heat transfer device that does not need a source of energy separate from the heat its exposed to. From NASA spacecraft to consumer electronics to pipelines along the Canadian tundra, the simplistic function of heat pipes lends itself to a wide array of machines. However, due to the different properties of the materials used in heat pipe construction, there are many variations of it, each with their own effective heat range and cost depending on the scarcity of the materials needed to construct it. The students of Drexel University's First-Year Engineering Design Class F Lab Section 065 will work together in four person groups in order to design, construct, and test a heat pipe that satisfies their requirements. The heat pipe will be a sealed pipe that has been evacuated of air with a small amount of fluid inside. The interior of the pipe will have grooves that allow for capillary acti
