Week 5

Progress

We have yet to begin testing the heat pipe on its heat transfer efficiency. A large amount of time was wasted waiting for our turn to test our heat pipe since there was only enough equipment for 3 groups to go at a time and there were 11 groups in the lab. Due to the amount of people that need to test their heat pipes, the lab instructor decided to let the groups sign up for specific time slots during lab. We chose week 6 at 9-9:30 AM. Some members of our group are also planning to come to the Innovation Studio during Friday to test the heat pipe. During the tests, we will measure the time it takes for the temperature to level out by recording the temperature in 15-30 second intervals.

+ Pipe dimensions: 1/2" (1.27 cm) diameter, 24" (60.96 cm) length
+ Pipe Volume: 4.71 in^3 (77.2 cm^3)

Decisions

We plan to have a rubber insulator to ensure that the minimum amount of heat is lost while the heat pipe is functioning. We will definitely test the parameters of the heat pipe next week.
